West Coast How you breathin?! My heart breaks, as all ours do, for the lives ruined, homes destroyed, the wild animals and our forests! Thank Goddess the rains came this am! I’m just west of the big fires in Oregon where the air quality is still 446 the highest in the nation today. Check your air quality at https://www.airnow.gov
I am having a hard time with my Marfan syndrome acting up more then ever as many of us with sensitivity to inflammation and toxins. Smoke is such a free radical for not just the lungs. but the heart as well. I’m feeling this! Heartracing, slight primal panic to run but can’t due to a great fatigue from low O2 levels. But i began taking a potent antioxidant specific for the lungs to clear this damn smoke! Sulfurophane. Deep breathing in the shower helped too! Curious about your oxygen levels? Oximeter are fairly inexpensive anymore online.
Beth Gillespie nutritionwithbeth.com put together a protocol for wildfire smoke based on an excellent Environmental Health Symposium/National Association of Environmental Medicine webinar series on wildfire smoke. Her top supplement picks to decrease oxidative stress and inflammation caused by wildfire smoke are as follow:
N-Acetyl-Cysteine: 1 capsule (900 mg) twice daily during exposure to smoke. NAC still remains my top pick for overall lung health and detoxification. NAC protects against most of the compounds found in wildfire smoke! It acts as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, a mucolytic, and it increases glutathione levels. Increasing glutathione levels is esp. important as small particulates have been associated with a decrease of intracellular glutathione levels in animals and humans. Also a top pick for COVID Designs for Health link https://dramandalynn.ehealthpro.com/products/n-acetyl-cysteine-120-caps Metagenic link https://ahoffman.metagenics.com/glutaclear. This also has some of the next nutrient in it from broccoli
Sulforaphane potent antioxidant either Sulforaclear by Metagenics or BroccoProtect by Designs for Health. These products are a synergistic blend of specially cultivated broccoli seed extract and broccoli sprout concentrate. Broccoli’s glucoraphanin and active myrosinase enzymes help support sulforaphane production. Sulforaphane is a potent activator of the body’s own antioxidant and detoxifying enzymes. Sulforaphane has been shown to increase levels of enzymes important in mitigating lung damage from ozone and other air pollutants: glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione S-transferase (GST), and gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase (GSC). These potent antioxidants is naturally occuring in broccoli but is destroyed quickly with heat. https://ahoffman.metagenics.com/sulforaclear. I’m doing 2 caps 2x day while I’m in the smoke, but i’m in the worst spot in the US currently. https://dramandalynn.ehealthpro.com/products/broccoprotect-90-vegetarian-capsules. New product just in time! This is a 1 cap 2x day
VItamin C: Stellar C: 1 capsule 4x daily OR Liposomal Vitamin C ½ tsp 4x daily. Often underappreciated, Vitamin C is critical to immune system health, detoxification and has been found to decrease airway irritation.
Stellar C is a combination of bioflavinoids, acerola and ascorbic acid for the punch. https://dramandalynn.ehealthpro.com/products/stellar-c-90-vegetarian-capsules
Poor gut? Don’t digest well? Go Liposomal! They even have a liposomal vitamin D. https://dramandalynn.ehealthpro.com/products/liposomal-glutathione
Liposomal Glutathione can also be added to this protocol to ensure optimal glutathione levels, especially if you know that you or your patient has SNPs related to the glutathione pathways. Oxidative stress uses up glutathione!!
Don’t have an air filter like me?! Boil water and get steam in the air to help drop those particles of smoke to the ground!
Hope this helps you all! Hit me up if you have any questions and please share with your loved ones! Keep your chins up loves!!
