Adopt a Family for the Holidays!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have a very difficult holiday season for our county is very much in need!  My friend Bethina, approached me with a list of 5 families she directly new of (besides the 17 homeless men she drops off food and bedding for, which Salvation Army is out of men’s coats for these gentlemen) that were in need of anything to help them through these very hard times.  I’m not sure if many of you are connected with the amount of children in need of clothes, food and a gift for the holidays but we know of 17 children who are some of the many that YCAP, Salvation Army, our Churches and community support just can’t reach due to “exhausted funds and supplies”.  All the Christmas boxes where called for by Summer and toys for tots doesn’t even give to our county.  We have letters out to Albertson’s, Walgreen’s and Safeway and hope they can help.  We are in a crisis here and I would love to help and I know you would too so we are taking donations of food for christmas supper, warm clothes or a stocking stuffer to help these families have a something to celebrate, a community that cares!  Drop off Donations at Calypso 2185 NW 2nd st in the yamhill valley wellness plaza around the water feature in the blue building.  I am giving 5-10% off supplements for all who do!
Thank you in advance for all your Donations  as special thank you for Linette our front desk receptionist for McMinnville Family Eye Care who has donated some wonderful toys!  You have a big heart LInette Copola !! Thank you!!
Wanna make some healthy holiday gifts for your loved ones?
Great let’s get started….
Elderberry Syrup My favorite for these viral colds and general immune support that is full of strong antioxidants and great Vitamin C.  PErfect for kids and the Elders  hence Elderberry! OHHH! I love the ol folk medicine…. this recipe is from a friend Judith Caporiccio
Elderberry Syrup
1/2 c. dried elderberries
3 c. of water
1 c. of Local HONEY
Berries in saucepan, cover with water and simmer over low heat for 30-45min.  Smash the berries and strain through a fine mesh strainer and add the honey.  Bottle and store for 3months in the refrigerator.  Reciped can be doubled as much as you want.
 Flora’s Healing Salve from Shar Andrews-Miller a great herbalist
Salve’s are a wonderful natural skin support for winter dry skin or for many wounds. The healing power of calendula is unsurpassed when it comes to the skin and healing.
Calendula is ideal but if you have other flowers to use instead is will be a nice moisterizer like lavendar or rose petals.
2 c. Calendula flower oil    ( I have some or you can simmer on low for 45min calendula flowers, lavendar or rose pedals in an almond, olive or jojoba oil.)
1.5oz to 1.75oz of bees wax  shredded
optional  1/2tsp to 1 tsp of vitamin E oil
1/2 tsp to 1 tsp of lavendar or any other essential oil
4 or more drops of Rescue Remedy or any other appropriate flower essence
Heat Calendula oil on the top of the double boiler over a low heat.  Slowely add beeswax until the appropriate consistency is obtained, I usually do this by letting some cool off and see if it will be soft enough to apply and thick enough to your preference.  Tkae the oil off the heat and add the optional ingredients if desired.  pour into clear, dry containers.  Let set until opaque before moving.  cap and make a fun label!
Dandelion Flower Cordial from Shar Andrews-Miller
2 to 3 c. of unwashed dandelion flowers  (greens removed)
2/3c. of sugar
rind of 1/2 lemon
1 qt. of vodka or gin or your choice
No dandelions around??  Try frozen cherries, raspberries or whatever your favorite fruit is!
Mix all the ingredients together in a jar.  Cap tightly and place in a dark place for 2 weeks.  Shake daily to make sure the sugar dissolves.  After 2 weeks, strain and store in a bottle with a tight cap.  Make a label and pick out fun bottles from goodwill or your old wine bottles cleaned with cork!
Drink straight or on ice with lemon and friends!
Rosemary Gladstar’s Cleansing Grains    Use this instead of drying and expensive facial soaps!
1 c. finely ground oats
2 c. white or any good quality clay
1/4c. finely ground almonds
1/8c. finely ground lavendar         I use a coffee grinder just for herbs  or just wash your coffee one!
1/8c. finely ground roses
essential oil if desired
Grind all ingredients coffee grinder best but blender will do.  Grind the oats very fine. leave the almonds with just a touch of grit so that they exfoliate nicely.  Try to powder the roses and lavendar as much as possible. Mix all ingredients together and add a few drops of pure essential oil if desired.  Store in a glass jar ( a spice jar with a share top is ferfect).  To use, mix 1-2 tsp of grains with enough water to form a paste.  Gently massage the face with the paste to cleanse and exfoliate.  Rinse off with warm water.
I hope you have a spectacular holiday season and looking forward to seeing you all in the new year in the new office with all your new goals for your health!!!
